Iodine tincture - Jodtinktur German

It is a germicidal disinfectant, made by mixing 60 grams of iodine, 40 grams of potassium iodide, and an appropriate amount of 70V/V% (volume percentage) ethanol to make a total volume of 1000 milliliters. It is a dark reddish-brown liquid with a distinctive odor. It has germicidal and local irritant properties. It is used to disinfect surgical fields, but for general wound disinfection, dilute iodine tincture, which is made by diluting this product twice with 70V/V% ethanol, is used. It should not be used in combination with mercurochrome solution, as it will cause a precipitate. Iodine tincture can be taken internally as an antiemetic, at 2-4 drops per time, or 2-4 drops can be added to a glass of water to use as a mouthwash.

殺菌消毒剤で、ヨウ素60グラム、ヨウ化カリウム40グラム、70V／V％（容量百分率）エタノール適量を加えて全量1000ミリリットルとして製する。暗赤褐色の液で、特異なにおいをもつ。殺菌作用と局所刺激作用がある。手術野の消毒に用いられるが、一般の創傷面の消毒には本品を70V／V％エタノールで2倍に希釈した希ヨードチンキが用いられる。マーキュロクロム液とは沈殿を生ずるので、併用してはならない。なお、ヨードチンキは鎮吐剤として1回2～4滴を滴剤として内用したり、コップ1杯の水に2～4滴加えてうがい薬とすることがある。
