A hot spring in Shiroishi City, southern Miyagi Prefecture. It is a general term for several hot springs that well up in the valley bottom of the valley area upstream of the Shiroishi River, and is currently divided into Furuyu and Shinyu. Both were discovered in the Edo period, and are said to have developed as hot springs in the mid-Edo period. In addition to this hot spring, there is Kamasaki Hot Spring at the southeastern foot of Mount Zao, which was touted as ``Kamasaki, where beriberi comes, Obara in the eyes.'' The spring quality is a simple spring containing salt and sulphate, and the spring temperature is 50°C. It is about 8 km from Shiroishi Station on the Tohoku Main Line, and a 30-minute bus ride away. The valley is beautiful with both fresh greenery and autumn leaves, and in addition to the acacia trees in the hot spring town, there are the northernmost areas of Kotsubugaya, Hidari-makigaya, and Yokogura-noki trees along the river about 9 km upstream, as well as Zaimoku-iwa, all of which are designated as natural monuments.
