A state in New England, northeastern United States. Abbreviated as Vt. or VT. The state name comes from the French Vert Mont (meaning "green mountain"). The state is long and narrow from north to south, with the Green Mountains, mainly composed of granite, running north to south through the center, and the terrain is generally hilly. Lake Champlain is located in the northwest, and the Connecticut River flows along the state border with New Hampshire in the east. The climate is humid and cool.
