1865‐1916 French physician and occult researcher. His real name was Gerard Encausse. Born in Spain, he moved to France, his father's birthplace, at a young age and joined the Theosophical Society. Attracted by the Christian mysticism preached by Péladan and Guaita, he joined the Rosicrucian movement and devoted himself to the study of the Tarot and Kabbalah. He also organized his own organization, the Martinist Order, which united the followers of Martinez de Pascali and Saint Martin, and revived the lineage of mystical philosophy based on Christianity, which began with Swedenborg and continued from Pascali to Saint Martin.
