A medieval post station in Suruga Province. It was also called Tegoshi Station. Tegoshi, Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is currently located on the right bank of the Abe River, but in the Middle Ages it was located on the right bank of the Warashina River, which flows into the Abe River. According to the entry for October 16, 1180 in the Azuma Kagami, tens of thousands of troops of Taira Koremori, who was aiming to pursue the Genji, arrived at Tegoshi Station. In 1189, Tegoshi Heita Ietsuna was given Mariko (present-day Mariko, Shizuoka City) by Minamoto no Yoritomo as a reward for his military achievements in the Oshu Conquest, and was allowed to build a station house. Ietsuna was probably a local samurai. The name appears in travel writings such as the Kaido-ki throughout the Middle Ages. During the Nanboku-cho civil war, the armies of Ashikaga Tadayoshi and Hojo Tokiyuki, as well as the armies of Ashikaga Tadayoshi and Takano Moroyasu and Nitta Yoshisada fought at Tegoshigawara. In the early modern period, post stations were established on the Tokaido at Fuchu (Sunpu) and Marukoshi, and Tegoshi, located between them, lost its function as a post station and became Tegoshi Village, Abe County, Suruga Province.
