A leading paint manufacturer. Founded in 1918. Merged with Iwaki Paint Manufacturing in 1937, Oriental Paint in 1943, and Sawamura Zinc in 1943. Established joint venture company Toei Lacquer Factory in Taiwan in 1955, and Thai Kansai Paint in 1968. Established Japan Electrocure in 1971. Established joint venture company Cross Kansai in Spain in 1975. Initially focused on pigments, but expanded by developing lacquer and resin paints in 1942. After World War II, the company continued to develop various paints, diversifying its products with the introduction of Coloramic Coating in 1955 and technology from American Marietta in 1960, and also formed a technical partnership with Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in the UK in 1964. Growth has been achieved through active technology introduction and commercialization of products. Since 1969, the company has also expanded into the information industry. In 1985, it released "Fantac," an adhesive film for marking, and in 1989, it developed a new crosslinking paint technology "ESCA." Sales breakdown is synthetic resin paint 81%, lacquer 1%, thinner 5%, others 13%. Annual sales are 168.89 billion yen (consolidated, of which 8% is exports), capital is 25.658 billion yen, and number of employees is 2,814 (1999).

塗料のトップメーカー。 1918年創立。 37年岩城塗料製造，43年オリエンタルペイント，沢村亜鉛を合併。 55年台湾に合弁会社唐栄油漆廠，68年タイ関西ペイント設立。 71年日本エレクトロキュア設立。 75年スペインに合弁会社クロスカンサイ設立。当初顔料を主体としたが，22年塗料を主にラッカー，樹脂塗料を開発して拡大。第2次世界大戦後も各種塗料を開発し，55年カララミック・コーティング，60年アメリカンマリエッタからの技術導入などにより製品の多様化を進め，64年にはイギリスのインペリアル・ケミカル・インダストリーズ ICIとも技術提携。積極的な技術導入と製品の企業化によって成長。 69年以降情報産業分野にも進出。 85年マーキング用粘着フィルム「ファンタック」を発売，89年新架橋系塗料技術「ESCA」を開発。売上構成比は，合成樹脂塗料 81%，ラッカー1%，シンナー5%，その他 13%。年間売上高 1688億 9000万円 (連結。うち輸出8%) ，資本金 256億 5800万円，従業員数 2814名 (1999) 。
