A mammal of the Odontocetiidae suborder, Delphinidae family. A pilot whale-type dolphin found in temperate and tropical open oceans around the world. The forehead stands almost vertically, with a vertical depression in front. It has no beak, and has several pairs of teeth only on the lower jaw. The dorsal fin is high and located almost in the center of the body. The pectoral fins are also relatively long. Juveniles are almost entirely black-brown, but gradually become lighter in color, becoming light gray or white in adults. The surface of their bodies is covered with countless scratches made by the teeth of their dolphins, which resemble pine needles, hence the nickname pine dolphin.
