Reno (English spelling)

A city in northwestern Nevada, United States. It is located at the eastern foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, at an altitude of 1,370 meters. It has a population of 180,480 (2,000). It is a tourist city on par with Las Vegas, and is known as a city of gambling and divorce. The main street is packed with the world's largest casinos, hotels, theaters, restaurants, and other establishments, forming a large entertainment district that attracts people from all over the world. The town was established in 1868 when the Central Pacific Railroad opened, and became a city in 1879. There are many ski resorts nearby, including Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake, and you can enjoy fishing, hunting, hiking, and picnicking. Like Las Vegas, it has a well-developed transportation network and is an important commercial city, and is also the home of the University of Nevada, Reno (founded in 1864).
