[Born] King Sunjo 7 (1807)
[Died] 1863, 14th year of King Cheoljong. A wandering satirical poet from Dongbok, South Jeolla Province, Korea, in the late Yi Dynasty. Name: Byeong-yeon. Style: Seongsin. Pen name: Rango. Kasa was a common name. He was born into the powerful Kim clan of Andong, but in 1811, 11th year of King Sunjo's reign, his grandfather Kim Ik-sun, who was the Seoncheon defense envoy, joined the rebel army and the family was abolished. He spent his life wandering the world relying on a straw raincoat and hat, and died in a foreign land. He was a heavy drinker and a man of eccentric behavior, and he would enter and leave the civil service (the examination hall where the civil service examinations were held) as a substitute, becoming the top passer, and toying with powerful families and wealthy people with his specialty, rhapsodies and kyoka. In addition to many Chinese poems, there are also rhapsodies, irregular poems, poems in Korean (Hangul), kyoka (crybaby songs), and kyobun (crayon poems), and his works are full of fantastical, witty satire and humor.

朝鮮，李朝後期の放浪の風刺詩人。名，炳淵 (へいえん) 。字，性深。号，蘭皐 (らんこう) 。笠は俗称。権勢家門である安東金氏の家に生れたが，純祖 11 (1811) 年の洪景来の乱に，宣川防御使の祖父金益淳が反乱軍に属した罪で一家が廃族となった。生涯を一片の簑笠に託して天下を彷徨し客死。大酒奇行に富み，替え玉になって科場 (科挙の行われる試験場) に出入りして壮元 (1番の及第者) を占め，また得意の狂詩，狂歌で権門，富豪を翻弄した。多くの漢詩のほかに，狂詩，破字詩，国語 (ハングル) 詩，狂歌，狂文があり，作品は奇想天外，当意即妙の風刺と諧謔にあふれている。
