Yoshida Noriyo

Japanese: 吉田令世 - よしだのりよ

1791-1844 A Japanese classicist of the late Edo period.
Born in 1790. A samurai of the Mito Domain, Hitachi. A disciple and son-in-law of Fujita Yukoku. He served Tokugawa Nariaki when he became lord of the domain, and as one of his close aides, supported the domain's reform of government. He served as a member of the Shokokan, assistant professor at the domain school Kodokan, and waka teacher. He passed away on May 23, 1830. He was 54 years old. His nickname was Taira. He was commonly known as Heitaro. His pen name was Katsudo. His works include "A Study of Imperial Selections of Waka Poets of All Eras" and "A Single Water Lily."

寛政3年生まれ。常陸(ひたち)水戸藩士。藤田幽谷(ゆうこく)の門人で娘婿。徳川斉昭(なりあき)の藩主就任につくし,側近のひとりとしてその藩政改革をささえる。彰考館員,藩校弘道館の助教,歌道掛をつとめた。天保(てんぽう)15年5月23日死去。54歳。字(あざな)は平坦。通称は平太郎。号は活堂。著作に「歴代和歌勅撰考」「水の一すち」など。
