Irimizu Cave - Irimizu Cave

This limestone cave lies in the eastern part of Fukushima Prefecture, straddling the Takinemachi and Tokiwamachi districts of Tamura City. It lies beneath the limestone plateau Sendaihira on the western slope of Mt. Otakine. It was discovered between 1927 and 1929 (Showa 2-4) and is designated as a national natural monument. It consists of the first cave (600 meters) and the second cave (300 meters), and it is possible to explore, but the cave is narrow and has a lot of water flow, making it difficult to walk. The temperature inside the cave is 14°C, and the water temperature is 10°C, which remains constant throughout the year. To the southeast of the cave is Abukuma Cave, which was discovered in 1969 (Showa 44). Get off at Sugaya Station on the JR Ban'etsu East Line.

福島県東部、田村市滝根町(たきねまち)地区と同市常葉町(ときわまち)地区にまたがる鍾乳洞。大滝根山の西斜面の石灰岩台地仙台平(ひら)の下にあり、1927～1929年（昭和2～4）の発見、国の天然記念物に指定されている。第一洞（600メートル）、第二洞（300メートル）からなり、探勝が可能であるが、洞内は狭く、水流が多く、歩行が容易でない。洞内の温度14℃、水温10℃で年間を通じて変わらない。なお、洞の南東方には、1969年（昭和44）に発見された「あぶくま洞」がある。JR磐越(ばんえつ)東線菅野(すがや)駅下車。
