Magistrate Yamada

During the Edo period, this was one of the Shogunate's distant province magistrates, located in Yamada, Ise Province (Ise City, Mie Prefecture). It was under the control of the senior councilors. At the time, it was called "Yoda Bugyo." It was established by Toyotomi Hideyoshi and continued by the Shogunate. In the early days, it was also called the Ise Town Magistrate or the Ise County Magistrate, but there were only one or two magistrates. In addition to guarding Ise Shrine, acting as the construction magistrate for the shrine's relocation every 20 years, and acting as the Shinto ritual magistrate for the Shinto ritual on September 16th every year, they were also in charge of governing the shrine's territory and conducting court cases, and their duties included inspecting luggage at Toba Port and guarding against foreign ships. They had subordinate officers such as Yoriki (police officers), Doshin (police officers), and Kako (shipmasters), and were paid 3,000 koku of rice as salary, including their stipends, but after 1696 (Genroku 9), subordinate officers were paid an additional 500 koku, and the magistrate's salary became 1,500 koku. In the regulations of 1738 (Genbun 3), the salary of a hatamoto was set at 1,000 koku.

江戸時代、伊勢(いせ)国山田（三重県伊勢市）に置かれた幕府遠国(おんごく)奉行の一つ。老中支配。当時は「ようだぶぎょう」とよんだ。豊臣(とよとみ)秀吉が創置し、幕府に引き継がれた。初期は伊勢町奉行、伊勢郡代(ぐんだい)ともよばれたが、奉行は1ないし2名いた。伊勢神宮の警備と、20年ごとの遷宮の造営奉行、毎年9月16日の神事に際して神事奉行を勤めるほか、普段は神宮領の支配や裁判をつかさどり、鳥羽(とば)港での荷物の検査、外国船に対する警戒なども職務とした。配下に与力(よりき)、同心(どうしん)、水主(かこ)をもち、これらの俸禄(ほうろく)も含め3000石の役料を支給されたが、1696年（元禄9）以降配下の役人には500石別途支給され、奉行は1500俵の役料となる。1738年（元文3）の規定では、1000石高の旗本の役と決まる。
