Outadokoro - Ooutadokoro

Japanese:
Outadokoro - Ooutadokoro

This was the place in charge of teaching and managing Taiuta songs. It was a non-official office outside the law. At first, it was the Utamainotsukasa (Gagaku Bureau) which was responsible for traditional Japanese songs and dances, but in the early Heian period, songs were separated into the Taiutasho. Non-councillors or those of sixth rank or higher were appointed as betto (chiefs), and it is said that there were positions such as jyusei, annushi, koto shi, wakoto shi, flute shi, and uta shi. After the 10th century, those of nagon rank or higher were appointed as betto, and they were highly valued and played an active role in ceremonies. There are records of betto appointments up until the late Heian period, but what happened after that is unknown. It was restored in 1753 (Horeki 3) during the Edo period, and was merged into the Music Department of the Imperial Household Ministry in the Meiji period.
