Japanese: 八幡塚古墳 - はちまんづかこふん

This is a keyhole-shaped tomb located in Yoshida, Ogawamachi, Nasu County, Tochigi Prefecture. It was built facing west on a river terrace on the west bank of the midstream of the Nakagawa River, which flows south through eastern Tochigi Prefecture. It was excavated by Miki Fumio and others in 1953. Although the tip of the front part had already been cut off, the restored total length was 68m, and each side of the rear part measured 34m. The mound is covered with river stone roofing, but no haniwa are present. A burial facility was discovered in the rear part, parallel to the main axis of the tumulus. It was a type of direct burial method, with clay lumps placed on both ends of a split bamboo-shaped wooden coffin. The wooden coffin had decayed and no longer remained, but it is estimated to have been 6.55m long.

栃木県那須郡小川町吉田に所在する前方後方墳。栃木県東部を南流する那珂川中流域西岸の河岸段丘上に，西面して築かれる。1953年に三木文雄らが発掘した。前方部の先端がすでに削られていたが，全長は復原で68m，後方部の一辺は34mを測る。墳丘に河原石の葺石（ふきいし）をそなえるが，埴輪を欠く。後方部で，古墳の主軸に平行する埋葬施設を検出した。割竹形木棺の両端に粘土塊をおいた一種の木棺直葬の方式をとる。木棺は腐朽して残存していなかったが，棺長6.55mと推定されている。
