The capital of the province of the same name in central Thailand. Population 45,242 (1980). It is located 52 km west of Bangkok, on the west bank of the Nakhon Chaisri (Tha Chin) River, a branch of the Menam (Chao Phraya) River. It is in the western part of the grain belt of the Chao Phraya Delta, and is the administrative and commercial center of a vast rice paddy area. Fruit orchards spread over the natural levees nearby, and the city is famous for producing pomelo (a variety of pomelo). タイ中部にある同名県の県都。人口4万5242(1980)。バンコクの西方52km,メナム(チャオプラヤー)川の分流であるナコーンチャイシー(ターチーン)川の西岸に位置する。チャオプラヤー・デルタの穀倉地帯の西部にあり,広大な水田地帯の中の行政・商業上の中心地である。付近の自然堤防上には果樹園が広がり,ブンタン(ザボンの一品種)の産地として有名である。丘陵地の開墾は古くから進み,野菜類やサトウキビなどの畑作が盛んである。
