A former town in Higashichikuma County, Nagano Prefecture, west of Matsumoto City. Occupying the south bank of the Azusa River, it cultivates rice, fruits, and vegetables. Its specialty is watermelon. It is connected to Matsumoto City by the Matsumoto Electric Railway, and residential development is also progressing.
