Karlovy Vary (English spelling)

Japanese: カルロビ･バリ（英語表記）Karlovy Vary

A world-famous spa and health resort located at the confluence of the Tepla River and the Ohře River, a tributary of the Elbe River, in Western Bohemia in the western Czech Republic. German name: Karlsbad. Population: 56,000 (1991). Before World War II, it was a German town (53,300 Germans in 1939). The town's name comes from Emperor Charles IV (King of Bohemia, Charles I). The mineral springs (43-73°C) that originate from the nearby Karlovy Vary mountain range are used for drinking and bathing.

チェコ西部，西ボヘミアのテプラTepla川とエルベ川の支流オフジェOhře川の合流点に位置する世界的に有名な温泉･保養地。ドイツ名カールスバートKarlsbad。人口5万6000(1991)。第2次世界大戦前まではドイツ人町(1939年のドイツ人5万3300)であった。町名は皇帝カール4世(ボヘミア王，カレル1世)にちなむ。周辺のカルロビ･バリ山塊に源をもつ鉱泉(泉温43～73℃)は飲用･浴用に供される。
