? - 1709 (6th year of the Hoei period) A haiku poet of the early Edo period. His surname was Mizuta, given name Motokiyo, commonly known as Shozaemon, and other names were Sakurayamashi, Rakugetsuan, and Okamatsuken. He was from Iwaya, Settsu Province (present-day Nada Ward, Kobe City). He was the fourth son of Mizuta Kazubei, a vassal of Araki Murashige, the governor of Settsu. The Mizuta clan was a cultured family that enjoyed the refined arts of waka and renga for generations, and Saigin went to Osaka at an early age to study haiku under Soin, later joining Saikaku and becoming one of his influential entourage. In 1676 (Enpo 4), he performed 10,000 verses from Hiruamishu, becoming a master of haiku, and was bestowed one of the characters from Saiou (Soin) to take the name Saigin, and opened a haiku meeting place in Nakamachi, Osaka.
