Year of death: Eijin 1.4.22 (1293.5.29) Year of birth: Year of birth unknown. A military commander in the late Kamakura period. He is said to be the son of either Moritsuna or Moritoki, who was the head of the Samurai-dokoro and the internal kanrei of Hojo Yasutoki and Tokiyori. He was called Saburo or Saemonnojo, and his posthumous Buddhist name was Koen (Kaen) or Heizenmon. He was the head of the Samurai-dokoro and the internal kanrei of Tokuso Tokimune, and was regarded as the "master of the world" (Nichiren's letter), and gained influence as the husband of the wet nurse of the young regent Sadatoki. In 1285 (Kōan 8), he slandered Munekage, the son of Adachi Yasumori (Sadatoki's maternal grandfather), who held real power in the shogunate, as plotting a rebellion, and destroyed his family (Shimotsuki Incident). With the power of Tokuso, who had established dominance in the shogunate, as a backdrop, he carried out a despotic government that "everyone trembled in fear of." However, in 1293, his eldest son Munetsuna secretly accused him of plotting to make his second son, Iinuma Sukemune (Sukemune), Shogun, and he was attacked by assassins sent by Sadatoki, leading to his suicide along with his family at his residence in Kyojidani, Kamakura (Taira no Yoritsuna's Rebellion). Munetsuna was exiled to Sado, and later returned to the position of Inner Kanrei. Thereafter, the Nagasaki clan, a member of the same clan, served as Inner Kanrei until the end of the Kamakura period. There is a legend in Heizaemon Jigoku in Atami, Izu, that tells of Yoritsuna's evil acts. <References> Sato Shinichi, "Research on the Litigation System of the Kamakura Shogunate" (Yuyama Manabu) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
