path
Calipers

A tool used to transfer the dimensions of a workpiece or product to another or to compare it with a ruler or gauge. It consists of two arms that can be opened freely, and there are external passes for measuring the outside dimensions of objects such as the outer diameter and thickness of a shaft, and internal passes for measuring the inside dimensions such as the inner diameter of a hole and groove width. To use it, the passes must be opened until both ends lightly touch the part to be measured, and then removed in that state without moving. Therefore, when precision is required, skill is required, but a skilled worker can expect an accuracy of about 0.01 to 0.05 mm, and generally around 0.1 to 0.2 mm. It is often used when high dimensional precision is not required or when it is used as a guide for dimensions during machining. There are also graduated passes that use a lever to expand the opening of the pass and allow the scale to be read directly.
