In 1985, it merged with the Japan Atomic Energy Ship Development Corporation. Its headquarters are in Kashiwa City, Chiba Prefecture. In addition to the Tokai Research Center in Tokai Village, Ibaraki Prefecture, it also has the Takasaki Research Center, Naka Research Center, Oarai Research Center, Kansai Research Center and Mutsu Office. As a core research institute for atomic energy research and development in Japan, it is also actively engaged in international research cooperation and joint research.
