Born May 27, 1930 in Cambridge, Maryland. American novelist. Earned a master's degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1952, and taught English literature at Pennsylvania State University (1953-65), the State University of New York (1965-73), and his alma mater. In his works, he produced experimental works that explored philosophical themes, using highly conscious techniques such as elaborate parody and intricate plots. In his works, he expressed a nihilistic view of humanity through sharp satire and vulgar humor.
