A medium-sized skipper butterfly of the Hesperiidae family in the Lepidoptera order. Its wings span 3-3.5cm. Its name comes from the slightly reddish yellow base color of its wings. It is found in areas ranging from the Baikal region of Siberia through northern China, the Amur region, Sakhalin, and the Korean Peninsula to Japan, where it is only found in the inland mountains of central Honshu. It inhabits sunny mountain grasslands and emerges once a year between late July and mid-August. It is an extremely swift flyer and likes to gather on flowers such as the Japanese lantern plant, the Japanese scabious plant, and the pitcher plant.
