Located in a corner of the government district of Tehran, the capital of Iran, this is the oldest and largest museum in the country. It was opened around 1930 with French urban planner and archaeologist André Godard (1881-1965) as its first director. The building is a two-story brick structure, with artifacts from prehistoric times to the Sassanid Persian period on the first floor and Islamic times on the second floor. In addition, the second floor houses a large collection of Chinese porcelain formerly owned by the Ardabil Mausoleum, as well as a treasure room that displays gold, silver, and bronze items excavated from prehistoric tombs such as those of Mallik and Gibier.

イランの首都テヘランの官庁街の一角にある同国最古，最大の博物館。1930年ころ，フランスの都市計画家･考古学者ゴダールAndré Godard(1881‐1965)を初代館長として開設。建物は煉瓦造の2階建てで，1階に先史時代からササン朝ペルシア時代，2階にイスラム時代の遺物が展示されている。このほか2階に，アルダビール廟旧蔵の中国磁器の大コレクション，マルリク，ジビエなどの先史時代墳墓から出土した黄金製品，銀製品，青銅器を収蔵展示した宝物室がある。
