Also known as nephropathy. A kidney disease characterized by severe edema, proteinuria, the appearance of fat globules in the urine, hypoproteinemia, and hypercholesterolemia due to damage to the glomeruli. In addition to glomerulonephritis, collagen diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, amyloidosis, syphilis, renal vein thrombosis, diabetic nephropathy, heavy metal poisoning, and drug poisoning, there are also cases of unknown cause. In cases of syphilis and heavy metal poisoning, the underlying disease is treated. In other cases, dietary therapy is generally based on rest and salt restriction. Corticosteroids are used, but are ineffective for amyloidosis and renal vein thrombosis and are contraindicated for diabetic nephropathy. Diuretics may also be used. → Related topics Renal failure | Urology | Taste disorders Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
