Osabagusa - Osabagusa

Japanese:
Osabagusa - Osabagusa

A perennial plant of the Papaveraceae family (APG classification: Papaveraceae), with one genus and one species, endemic to Japan. The leaves are all basal, dark green, once-pinnately compound, comb-like, and sparsely covered with coarse hairs. From spring to summer, it produces dark brown flower stalks 20-30 cm long, which produce white flowers about 1 cm in diameter in clusters. It has two sepals, four petals, four stamens, and one pistil. The capsule splits into two when ripe. It contains two to four round seeds. The Japanese name comes from the fact that the leaves resemble the reeds of a weaving machine. It grows somewhat rarely on the dark forest floor of coniferous forests in the Tohoku and Chubu regions of Honshu. The genus Hypecoum is considered to be closely related to the genus Hypecoum , which is found from China to the Mediterranean Sea, in that it has four petals without a septum, four stamens, and does not produce milky liquid.
