British Indian Ocean Territory

...The inhabitants work in fishing, coconut plantations, and collect guano. Because of its strategic location, it was incorporated into the British Indian Ocean Territory in 1965 along with the Aldabra, Farquhar, and Desroches islands. However, in 1976, the three islands except for the Chagos Archipelago were returned to the Seychelles, which had achieved independence.
