Born: 1890. Niigata Died in 1939. Tokyo education scholar. Pioneered the field of empirical research on education systems. Graduated from the Faculty of Letters of Tokyo Imperial University in 1913, and worked as an assistant before joining the Ministry of Education's General Education Bureau. In 1948, he traveled to the United States, absorbing the latest results of educational research in the United States at the time, such as curriculum organization theory and comparative education. After returning to Japan, he consistently contributed to the development of American-style empirical and statistical research. In 1951, he became a professor at Tokyo Imperial University. While personally conducting school surveys, he participated in government councils and committees, and played an important role as a member of the Association of Educational Reform Comrades and a founding member of the Educational Science Research Association. His books include "The History of the Development of School Education in Europe and the United States" (1930), "A Little Education" (34), and "Curriculum Theory" (37).
