Japanese: 三国間輸送 - さんごくかんゆそう

This refers to transport activities on so-called foreign trade routes other than the domestic trade routes. In other words, it refers to a form of transport by ships registered in a country other than the trading parties. This type of trilateral transport activity is typically observed in the shipping operations of countries that have large merchant fleets compared to their domestic trade volume, such as Norway, Greece, and the Netherlands, but the merchant fleets of countries with large trade volumes, such as Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, also engage in trilateral transport to a considerable extent. Since all freight income from trilateral transport is received in foreign currency paid by foreign shippers, it is extremely important for maritime countries that do not have any other particular export industries and for which shipping is an important export industry.

自国貿易航路以外のいわゆる外国間の貿易航路における輸送活動をいう。いいかえれば，貿易当事国以外の国に登録されている船舶による輸送形態を指す。このような三国間輸送活動は，一般にノルウェー，ギリシア，オランダに代表されるように，自国貿易量に対比して大規模な商船隊を保有する国の船舶運航に典型的に観察されるが，日本，イギリス，アメリカなどの大規模な貿易量を示す国の商船隊も，相当量三国間輸送に従事している。三国間輸送における運賃の収得はすべて外国荷主の支払う外貨の受取になるので，他に格別の輸出産業をもたず海運業を重要な輸出産業としている海運国にとっては，きわめて重要である。
