Ivory-billed woodpecker (English spelling)
A bird of the woodpecker family, Picidae. A large woodpecker with a total length of about 50 cm and black and white plumage. Males have a large red crest on the top of their head, while females have black feathers. Their large, thick, ivory-colored beaks. They live alone in pairs in vast virgin forests of deciduous broadleaf trees along rivers. Of all woodpeckers, they are best at climbing tree trunks, using their powerful beak to tear off large pieces of bark and catch large beetle larvae. They also eat cones and fruits. During the breeding season, they dig nests in dead trunks of tall trees and lay three to four eggs per clutch.
