Also known as tsurukobea. A perennial vine of the Polemonium family native to Mexico. It grows to a length of 5-10m, climbing by tendrils, and older plants become woody. The leaves are pinnately compound with 4-6 leaflets, with a terminal leaflet that forms a tendril. The flowers are large, bell-shaped, changing from green to purple-red, and the calyx is large and leaf-like with five lobes. There is also a horticultural variety with white flowers. The overwintering temperature is 8-12°C. It is propagated by seed or cuttings.
