Idojiri ruins - Idojiri ruins

This is a collective term for a group of settlement ruins from the Middle Jomon period that are distributed around Shinano Sakai Station, about 900 meters above sea level on the southwest foot of the Yatsugatake Mountains in Fujimi Town, Suwa County, Nagano Prefecture. Strictly speaking, the two groups of settlements, Ido, Sori, Ido Hinata, and Aramichi, Kagohata, Kyubeione, Tounai, and Mujinazawa, are distributed close to each other. Several excavation surveys have been carried out since 1949 (Showa 24), and a total of over 100 dwelling sites have been discovered along with a large number of various artifacts. In particular, the huge group of gorgeously gorgeous Middle period pottery is considered to be the finest Jomon pottery. Furthermore, the bread-like carbonized material discovered around the hearth at the site of the dwelling provided a clue to the discovery of similar items, and played a major role in research into the nature of plant-based foods in the Jomon culture. As well as being representative of the archaeological sites from the height of Jomon culture's prosperity, the pioneering of a method for dating pottery based on the relationship between the cuts at dwelling sites, and the reconstructive research into the use of pottery and stone tools through experimental archaeology, while based on the "Middle Jomon Agriculture Theory," can be said to have had a groundbreaking impact on Jomon period research. It was designated a national historic site in 1981, and the Idojiri Archaeological Museum was built nearby the Sori site.
