Dionysia Festival - Dionysia Festival (English spelling)

Dionysia Festival - Dionysia Festival (English spelling)
A festival of ancient Greece. The deity worshipped was Dionysus. It was an old, cheerful, erotic peasant festival, but it played an important role in cultural history because it came to feature tragic and comedic contests. There were three festivals by this name in Athens. The first was one that had been celebrated since ancient times in the villages of Attica, and featured a procession with a giant phallus (phallus) and a free-spirited ritual. The second was one of these village festivals, held in the village of Eleutherai, which was moved to the city of Athens by the tyrant Peisistratos, and a temple was built at the southeastern foot of the Acropolis.
