A perennial plant of the Rosaceae family that rarely grows in alpine grasslands in central Honshu and on Mount Yubari in Hokkaido. In summer, it produces small yellow-green flowers in clusters. Unusually for the Rosaceae family, it produces tetrameric flowers with four sepals, four accessory calyxes, no petals, and four stamens. There are several dozen species of the same genus in the European Alps and other high mountains in the subarctic and temperate zones of the Northern Hemisphere, and the Japanese name for one of these species is a free translation of the European common name for Lady's Mantle.

バラ科の多年草で，本州中部と北海道の夕張岳の高山草原にまれに生える。夏に黄緑色の小花を集散状につける。バラ科には珍しく4数性の花をつけ萼片4，副萼4，花弁はなくおしべも4本である。ヨーロッパアルプスをはじめ北半球の亜寒帯や温帯の高山に同属のものが数十種あり，その1種に対するヨーロッパの俗名レディズマントルを意訳したのが和名である。
