Teru wa Kyogen is also called. The origin of the word is unclear, but Morisada Manko states that "Teri is said to be an abbreviation of Niwa Kyogen." It is a type of Noh and Kyogen that includes Imayo Noh Kyogen, Azuma Noh Kyogen, and Sensuke Noh. It is a type of Noh and Kyogen that incorporates Kabuki, Joruri, dance, and acrobatics, and adds shamisen to the music and uses a distant view of the backdrop to create a Niwa style. It originated in Osaka during the Kaei era (1848-1854), and in the Ansei era (1854-1860), Yamamoto Shunzaburo's troupe moved to Edo and was active until the beginning of the Meiji era. In addition, Hayashi Jusaburo's troupe, in which women performed Noh and Kyogen, and men played the rhythm and sometimes the Kyogen, gained popularity. All of these troupes disappeared in the middle of the Meiji era. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
