...The technique is often depicted in Persian, Turkish, and Mughal miniatures depicting war scenes. Nafir is originally Arabic, but was brought to the Iberian Peninsula by Muslims after the 11th century and adopted as añafil in Spanish and anafir in Portuguese. The word fanfare is said to have its origin in nafir (HG Farmer), but this is derived from the plural form of the Arabic nafir, anfār.
