Tokonoushin (English spelling)

Japanese: 吐故納新 - とこのうしん（英語表記）tǔ gù nà xīn

One of the training methods in Chinese Taoism. It is also called Tu Na. It is a breathing technique that exhales old qi from the body and takes in new qi from outside the body. The "Ku Yi" chapter of "Zhuangzi" already mentions that there were people who practiced this technique of Tu Hu Na Xin as a method of health maintenance, and as far back as the Wei and Jin dynasties, Ji Kang's "Nang Sheng Lun" also teaches about breathing and Tu Na. Ge Hong's "Baopuzi" also teaches that when circulating qi, it should be done when the body is alive, and not when the body is dead, and this has been passed down to later generations.

中国の道教における修行法の一つ。また吐納ともいう。体内の古い気を吐き，体外の新しい気を取り入れる呼吸法のことである。すでに《荘子》の刻意篇に養生の方法として，この吐故納新の術を行うもののあったことが語られ，くだって魏･晋に及んで，嵆康（けいこう）の《養生論》でも呼吸吐納のことが説かれている。また，葛洪（かつこう）の《抱朴子》では，気をめぐらす際には，生気のときにすべきで，死気のときに行ってはならぬと説き，後世に継承された。
