White Rakuten

Japanese: 白楽天 - はくらくてん

[1] ⇒ Hakukyoi (白十宜) [2] Noh play. Side Noh piece. Kanze, Konparu, Kongo, Kita school. Author unknown. When Bai Juyi of the Tang Dynasty came to the sea of Tsukushi to measure the wisdom of Japan, an old fisherman was fishing in a small boat. He immediately guessed Rakuten's name, and when Rakuten composed a poem, he quickly recited it in waka poetry, astonishing the fisherman, and then disappeared. Soon, Sumiyoshi Myojin appeared on the sea and played dance and music, overwhelming Rakuten, and a divine wind was generated from the myojin's sleeve, blowing Rakuten's ship back to China.

[一] ⇒はくきょい（白居易）[二] 謡曲。脇能物。観世・金春・金剛・喜多流。作者未詳。唐の白楽天が日本の知恵を測ろうとして筑紫の海上まで来ると、老漁夫が小舟で釣りをしており、楽天の名をすぐ言いあて、楽天が詩を作るとすぐ和歌によみ替えるなどしてかれを驚嘆させて姿を消す。やがて海上に住吉明神が現われて舞楽を奏し、楽天を圧倒し、明神の袖から起こる神風で楽天の船を唐土へ吹き返してしまう。
