Physiology, the foundation of medicine, was introduced to Japan later than anatomy and pharmacology, and because it was difficult to understand and translate its contents, there were no translations. In response, Takano Choei translated and compiled several Dutch books (theories by G. de la Faye, J. F. Blumenbach, and TA Roose, among others) into this book, which is said to consist of 12 volumes, but only five inner volumes remain, and only the first volume was published (1832, Tenpo 3). …
