A gland that leaks secretions from cells to the outside of the body without accompanying the formed elements of the cells. Salivary glands also belong to this category, but the term usually refers to eccrine sweat glands (also called minor sweat glands). Eccrine sweat glands are long, tubular glands distributed throughout the body, and together with apocrine sweat glands, they make up the two types of sweat glands in humans. There are 2 to 5 million of them in total. The secretion is low viscosity and odorless, and is what we call sweat. Sweating regulates body temperature.
