Hakata Island

It is one of the Ochi Islands (Geiyo Islands) in the center of the Seto Inland Sea in northern Ehime Prefecture. It belongs to Imabari City. It has an area of ​​20.84 square kilometers and a population of 8,031 (2000). The coastline is 32.5 kilometers long, with a complex network of inlets and outlets. It is located in the center of an archipelago with Omi Island to the west, Ikuchi Island and Iwagi Island to the north, and Oshima Island to the south. Mount Hokosan and Mount Hiraki are included in the Setonaikai National Park. Omishima Bridge (completed in 1979) connects Omishima, and Hakata-Oshima Bridge (completed in 1988) connects Oshima, and they form part of the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Onomichi-Imabari route (West Seto Expressway = Setouchi Shimanami Kaido, completed in May 1999).

愛媛県北部、瀬戸内海中央部の越智(おち)諸島（芸予諸島）の一島。今治(いまばり)市に属す。面積20.84平方キロメートル、人口8031（2000）。海岸の出入りが複雑で海岸線の長さは32.5キロメートルに及ぶ。西に大三(おおみ)島、北に生口(いくち)島、岩城(いわぎ)島、南に大島など多島海の中央にある。宝股山(ほこさん)や開山(ひらきやま)などが瀬戸内海国立公園に含まれる。大三島橋（1979年完成）が大三島と、伯方・大島大橋（1988年完成）が大島と結び、それぞれ本州四国連絡橋尾道(おのみち)―今治ルート（西瀬戸自動車道＝瀬戸内しまなみ海道、1999年5月全通）の一部をなす。
