…The inner coast is below sea level and contains fertile pastures, though not as extensive as in the Netherlands. The central part, north of the Meuse (Haysbaye) is a hilly region with an elevation of 100 metres, while the central part (Condroz) is a Carboniferous region with an elevation of 100-200 metres. It has long been the centre of Belgian industry. It is endowed with fertile soils of limestone and schist.
