Around 1324 - 1397 or 1398 A late Byzantine theologian and humanist. A student of Cabasilas. Born in Thessalonica. As chancellor to Emperor John V Palaiologus, he worked on cooperation with the Church of Rome. He studied Latin and translated the works of Augustine and Thomas Aquinas into Greek, exerting a great influence on Eastern theology. He was devoted to Latin theology and therefore opposed the mystical theology of the time, and was active as an anti-Gregory Palamasian.
