Georges Feydeau

Georges Feydeau
1862‐1921
French playwright. He produced a great number of works, including "A Bad Fate" (1894), "The Lady at Maxime's" (1895), "Amelie, Please" (1908), and "The Dead Mother of the Madame" (1910). All of these plays are comedies that make audiences laugh with their ingenious plots, witty dialogue, and comfortable, speedy movements. He became a popular playwright in the Paris theater world during his lifetime, but was forgotten for a time after his death. However, there has been a noticeable trend toward reevaluation since the 1950s, and his works are often performed again by major theater companies such as the Comédie-Française and the Barrault Company.
