Pieces - Byo

A Chinese scholar of the Han dynasty. His courtesy name was Shu. He was from Huaiyin (Jiangsu Province). He first served King Pi of Wu as a langzhong, but when he learned of King Wu's plans for rebellion, he tried to admonish him but was not listened to, so he went to Liang to serve King Xiao. After the Wu-Chu Seven States Rebellion, he was summoned by Emperor Jing to serve as Hongnong Wei, but resigned due to illness and returned to Liang, where he became acquainted with Zou Yang, Sima Xiangru, and others who gathered in King Xiao's salon. In his later years, he was summoned by Emperor Wu and died on his way to the capital. He was a master of beautiful prose, and his "Shichihatsu," which he composed to enlighten the crown prince of King Xiao, created a new form of fu (commentary) that was later called "Shichi," and had a great influence on fu (commentary) of his time and in later generations.

中国、漢の文人。字(あざな)は叔(しゅく)。淮陰(わいいん)（江蘇(こうそ)省）の人。初め呉(ご)王濞(ひ)に仕えて郎中(ろうちゅう)となったが、呉王の謀反の計画を知り、諫(いさ)めたが聞かれず、梁(りょう)に行き孝王に仕えた。呉楚(そ)七国の乱ののち、景帝に召されて弘農尉(こうのうい)となったが、病を理由に辞してふたたび梁に行き、孝王のサロンに集まる鄒陽(すうよう)、司馬相如(しばしょうじょ)らと交わった。晩年、武帝に召され都に赴く途中で没した。美文の名手で、孝王の太子を啓発するためにつくられた「七発(しちはつ)」はのちに「七」とよばれる賦(ふ)の新形式をつくったもので、同時代および後世の辞賦に大きな影響を与えた。
