Termez

Termez

… [Nakao Kotani]
[art]
During the Bactrian Kingdom, Hellenistic art flourished, as shown by the discovery of a Corinthian capital at Ai-Khanum, and from the end of the 2nd century BC, a Greco-Iranian style of art was born, a mixture of Greek and Iranian art. After the fall of the kingdom, Buddhist art was introduced from Gandhara in the south in the 1st to 3rd centuries, and many temples were built near Termez (Uzbekistan), and paintings, plasterwork, and stone sculptures (Oxus School) were produced. When the area was conquered by the Sassanid Empire of Persia in the 3rd century, a style was born that combined Kushan and Sassanid art (gold and copper coins, secular wall paintings centered on banquet scenes, etc.), and this art was continued under the Hephthalite rule in the 5th and 6th centuries.
