One of the new zaibatsu that developed from the early Showa period through World War II, centered on financial capital. In 1906, the second generation Nomura Tokushichi closed the family business of money exchange and established Nomura Kabushiki-ten. After the Russo-Japanese War, he made huge profits through speculation, and in 1912, it was reorganized as Nomura Shoten. In 1913, he established Osaka Nomura Bank (capital 10 million yen), and thereafter expanded into various fields other than finance, such as textile industry and hotel industry. In 1922, with investment from the family, he established Nomura General Partnership as the umbrella company for the subsidiaries. In 1925, he separated the securities division and established Nomura Securities, and further established Nomura Trust and Nomura Life Insurance. Around the time of the Sino-Japanese War, the company developed into a zaibatsu centered on financial capital, with Nomura General Partnership as the core, including banking, trust, and life insurance, but the industrial sector was weak apart from Fukushima Spinning and Osaka Gas. Although it was dissolved after World War II, Nomura Bank changed its name to Daiwa Bank and grew into a mid-sized city bank, while Nomura Securities has grown into a leading company in its industry.
