Japanese: 鼓脹症 - こちょうしょう

A disease that occurs in ruminant livestock such as cattle and sheep. When fermented feed such as green grass is overfed, gas fills the stomach, causing symptoms such as cessation of rumination and difficulty breathing. Treatments include gastric lavage, oral administration of vegetable oil or silicone to inhibit fermentation and defoaming, and abdominal incision of the stomach. Chronic cases in which bloat occurs repeatedly are caused by various digestive diseases, and treatment of the underlying disease is required.

ウシ，ヒツジなどの反芻(はんすう)動物の家畜に起こる病気。青草などの発酵性飼料を過食した際，第一胃内にガスが膨満し反芻停止，呼吸困難などの症状を示すもの。胃洗浄，植物油やシリコンの内服による制酵・消泡，開腹による第一胃切開などを行う。鼓脹症が何回も繰り返して起こる慢性型のものは，種々の消化器病によるもので，原疾患の治療が必要。
