A US aircraft manufacturer known for its large passenger aircraft. Founded in 1934. During World War II, they mass-produced the B-17 and B-29 four-engine bombers, and after the war, they developed the B-47 and B-52 jet bombers. They applied their advanced technology to civilian aircraft and completed the world's first full-scale long-distance jet passenger aircraft, the 707, in 1957. They subsequently put into service the 727, 737, 747 (the first jumbo jet passenger aircraft), 757, 767, 777, and 787. In addition to passenger aircraft, they also focus on the space sector, producing communication satellites, Delta rockets (satellite launch vehicles), and the space shuttle. They are also a core company in the construction of the International Space Station. In 1997, they acquired McDonnell Douglas, a leading American military contractor, and became the world's leader in the military and space sectors. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. Sales for the fiscal year ending December 2011 were $68.7 billion.
