Novgorod‐Severskii

Japanese: ノブゴロド・セベルスキー(英語表記)Novgorod‐Severskii
Novgorod‐Severskii
A small city in Chernigov Oblast in northeastern Ukraine, located on the Desna River. Population 15,600 (1991). It is the central city of the Severskaya region (the name comes from the Severyan people who lived in the region). The origins of the town are unclear, but its existence has been known since 1044, and in 1096 it became the capital of a part of the Chernigov Principality (Seversky Principality). Prince Igor (1151-1202), famous for his The Chronicles of Igor, was also a prince here. During the reign of Grand Prince Algirdas of Lithuania (1345-77), it became part of Lithuania, and in 1503 it became part of the Principality of Moscow. However, there were constant disputes over the ownership of the town between Poland, which was united with Lithuania, and Moscow, and in the Treaty of Deulino at the end of 1618, it was part of Poland for the duration of the truce.
